The Light is Back in My Mom’s Eyes

My mom and her sister had lived together for the last ten years. When my aunt had to be moved into a nursing home because of the care that she required, my mom had to make a hard decision. She ended up staying in their home, because she knew that she was just not ready for a nursing facility yet. She did get very lonely though, and there were some things that she couldn’t handle on her own. I suggested that she bring in a senior companion in Queens and explained what that means.

I wish that I could go sit with my mom every day. I love her, and I want to be able to take care of her just like she did me. However, I work long hours, plus I have three children who require a lot of my time. I still go and see her a few times a week, but we both knew she needed a lot more. The great thing about a companion coming in is that she is able to have things done for her, like minor cleaning and cooking, but the companion does so much more for her too.

The best thing that this company does is allow their companions to take my mom places. She misses her sister so much, but she has no way of getting to the nursing home to visit on her own. Her companion is very happy to take Mom to see her sister anytime she wants to go. She doesn’t even need to schedule it in advance. If the mood strikes her while the companion is there, they just go since it is not that far away. That more than anything has brought a light back into my mom’s eyes, and I could not be more thankful for the company that goes above and beyond to help her.
